About me

I'm Anthony Belhumeur, massage therapist and founder of Massothérapie Belhumeur in Laval. I've always had a deep interest in the human body, from its anatomy to the psychological and human aspects that shape our experience. This interest first led me to study physiotherapy before I discovered in massage therapy a way of working that suited my personality even better: a hands-on, practical approach focused directly on helping people.

Sports have also been a part of my life for a very long time. I played hockey for more than 10 years and have now been strength training for 17 years. Like many athletes, I've experienced my share of injuries, acute pain and persistent pain. These experiences have given me a very concrete understanding of what it's like to deal with pain that limits our activities, our training, or simply our everyday lives.

Finally, I place great importance on the human side of my work. I enjoy getting to know people and talking with them when they feel like it, but I equally respect those who simply want to unwind in a calm and quiet environment. Everyone is different, and it is precisely this combination of the human body, hands-on work, and connecting with people that continues to make me passionate about what I do.

Experience and training

I graduated in Physiotherapy Technology and trained in Swedish massage, in addition to completing further training related to my practice. I worked in physiotherapy in both long-term care and private clinical settings, which exposed me to a wide range of situations, from more complex health conditions to work-related and motor vehicle accident injuries. I now focus exclusively on massage therapy, with more than 1,400 hours of training recognized by the AMQ.

My approach

My approach is characterized by sustained pressure and deep tissue work. I work progressively, layer by layer, rather than simply applying more force. I pay particular attention to muscle tension, trigger points and fascia. The nervous system also plays an important role in the way I approach massage. Encouraging relaxation first allows the body to reduce its resistance, which then allows me to gradually work into the deeper tissues. I primarily favour hands-on techniques, incorporating tools such as cupping and gua sha when appropriate. Every massage is adapted to the individual: therapeutic or relaxation-focused, conversation if you enjoy talking, or complete quiet if you prefer to simply unwind.
